Witte - Glas und Steine

Studio Work in the August Witte House

Operating out of Tostedt, a quiet spot south of Hamburg, German duo Witte (vocalist Kilian Kremer and synth designer Marvin) work inside a converted electronics shop originally owned by Kilian's great-grandfather. Formed in late 2025 after years spent navigating separate band projects, the pair set out to handle every stage of writing, recording, and mixing on their own terms. Their single 'Glas und Steine' captures the core of this arrangement, blending retro analog textures with clean digital production while keeping a steady forward tempo.

Generational Ties and Signal Chains

The physical studio space holds strong ties to the duo's personal history. A trombone played by Kilian's grandfather at the Hamburg State Opera hangs on the studio wall, while Marvin's musical foundation traces back to childhood piano lessons under the guidance of his own grandfather. These family connections bring a clear sense of purpose to their creative routine. In the studio, Marvin builds soundscapes through Arturia software libraries, running digital synth tracks through an old SPL GoldMike preamp to add subtle harmonic warmth and real tube saturation. The resulting arrangement on 'Glas und Steine' shifts fluidly between tension and movement, using a non-standard structural progression that keeps the groove dynamic without feeling forced.

Mood Swings and Unfiltered Delivery

Taking stylistic cues from acts like Parcels, Tom Misch, and Tua, 'Glas und Steine' explores an alternating mix of anger, hope, longing, and emotional detachment. Instead of relying on dramatic pop tropes or artificial hype, Witte builds tension through precise rhythm sections, shimmering synth arpeggios, and dry, controlled vocal takes. The track documents a quiet commitment to keep moving forward, transforming family heritage and studio experimentation into a sharp, unpolished indie pop cut.
