Ono Kimono Builds Tape-Saturated Psychedelic Funk on 'Sexy Creep'
Las Vegas multi-instrumentalist Justin Roll lays down 122 BPM cassette funk shaped by a TASCAM Portastudio and an MXR talk box.

Operating solo out of Las Vegas under the moniker Ono Kimono, Justin Roll cut 'Sexy Creep' straight to tape using an old acoustic drum loop and a TASCAM Portastudio 414. The 122 BPM groove stays tight and heavy on the low end, colored by synths routed through a BOSS GS-10 and warped through an MXR talk box.
Beneath the disco swing and psychedelic pop hook, the track takes a weird, unsettling turn. Roll closes the piece with vinyl wind samples and field recordings of high heels clacking through a concrete tunnel, leaving the groove behind for pure analog decay.
